The wireless charging in the 2019 Chevy Volt is situated right in front of the shifter, which is clearly visible to the driver of the car. This new position of the wireless charger is very convenient for users.
In the previous models, the wireless charging slot was located in between the front seats under the armrest, right behind the shifter.

All these problems got resolved by locating the wireless charging pad ahead of the shifter.
The phone is placed with its screen facing up on the wireless charger, which further improves the visibility. Now the driver does not have to turn his head to look at the phone. A downward glance is enough to look at the phone screen.
How big is the wireless charging box?
The wireless charging box of Chevy is of a moderate size that accommodates all average-sized smartphones.
The wireless charging box of Chevrolet cannot accommodate and charge extra-large sized phones known as phablets. Typically, phablets like the iPhone 8 Plus, Samsung S8 Plus cannot be charged in Chevy’s wireless charger, as they are too big to be accommodated inside it.
As a thumb rule, phones longer than 150mm or 6 cm will not fit into Chevy’s wireless charging box.
How to use wireless charging in Chevy Volt?
Before charging any phone wirelessly, please check the Chevy Volt wireless charger’s compatibility with the phone. The user manual may give the make and model of phones compatible with wireless charger.
Alternatively, you can also visit their website to check the compatibility of the phones. If needed, activate the wireless charger feature of the phone by accessing the phone’s advanced settings. Every phone may have a different set of instructions for enabling the wireless charger. Hence, it would be better to check the user manual or manufacturer’s site for instructions on enabling the phone’s wireless charging feature.
Remember to remove all metallic or magnetic objects, if any from the phone case, including the credit cards. The wireless charging is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. And any metallic or magnetic objects between the phone and the charger may disrupt the wireless charging process.
The charging pad has a symbol marked on it to keep the phone. Keep the phone face up on the charging pad. If needed, adjust the phone’s position on the charging pad, till charging icon appears on the infotainment panel.
The appearance of the icon on the panel is the confirmation that wireless charging has commenced. The disappearance of this symbol anytime during the charging indicates a flaw in the wireless charging process. Due to the movement of the vehicle, the position of the phone may shift at times.
If that is the case, re-align the phone, and the charging will commence again.
In case the phone is compatible, but the wireless charger does not work for it, there could be some alignment problem. Remove the phone and rotate it through 1800 . After a few seconds place it again on the charger and it will work.
Wiping off the surface of the wireless charger and the charger’s back also helps in establishing good contact. It may take about 10 -15 seconds for the Chevy wireless charger to recognize the phone and establish a connection with it.
Remember that the wireless charger will work only if the ignition switch is set to ON, or Accessory or Retained Accessory Power (RAP). The charging rate depends on the phone charged, and some phones may be charged faster than others.

The Chevy wireless chargers are compatible with Qi-enabled phones and also with phones enabled with PMA wireless technology. The following phones work perfectly well with the Chevy wireless chargers;

For phones not equipped with wireless charging system recommended cases like the Aircharge, may help charge the phones wirelessly.
